Sislej Xhafa performance at The Italian Pavilion at the 55. International Art Exhibition la Biennale di Venezia
Following the public success during the opening days of la Bienale di Venezia, on Sunday August. 25 Sislej Xhafa – one of the 14 artists of Bartholomeo Pietromarchi’s vice versa exhibition – will repeat the performance Parallel Paradox, where a hairdresser will cut the hair of ‘his clients’ amongst the branches of a tree.
By decontextualising this transaction, Xhafa’s performance both underlines and amplifies the social and symbolic value of a place where the private and intimate gesture of cutting hair is accompanied by the opportunity for discussion, for sharing, and where traditionally one also forms a public opinion.
